Assembling a brake hose & brake pipe is fast, but the faster you are able to identify an end fitting, the faster you are able to supply a customer.
We have a comprehensive catalogue of brake fittings, and here are the quick 'n easy steps to help you through this process:
Step 1: Identify the thread type: Metric or Imperial?
Step 2: Identify the seal face:
- Male Single Flare.
- Male Double Flare.
- Female Single Flare.
- Female Double Flare.
- Banjo or male fitting sealing with washer.
Step 3: Check the mounting point.
Step 4: Does the hose require a fitting or rubber mount to direct it away from rubbing or heat?

A quick way to identify a fitting is to use a known brake hose fitting or tube nut from your stock box. Using this you can confirm your thread on the sample hose presented by the customer.

There are only two thread systems: Metric or Imperial (Imperial is sometimes referred to as “American” or “British”)
Metric Threads found on Brake Systems
Metric systems measure the thread by the distance between two thread pitches expressed in millimeters. Example: M10 x 1: the outer diameter of the thread is 10 mm and the distance between each pitch is 1 mm.

Imperial Threads found on Brake Systems:
Imperial systems measure the number of thread pitches over a one inch length. Example: 7/16 x 24 NS the outer diameter of the thread is 7/16 (11.1 mm) and the number of thread pitches over a one inch length is 24.
